Sericultural Development Division

We all students of Class 10 were visited  sericultural development Division .It was related to Chapter of science subject .We were taken to khopasi , kavre to learn about silkworm and its farming .We moved to khopasi on 10 am and we reached on 12 :25 .Our principal Rajan sir and our science teacher Ramesh sir went with us for guaidence. I learn many things about silkworm and its cultivation.

Seri culture  and silk production in Nepal has more than Twenty-five years old history.Nepali Silk is the product of Bi-voltine Silk worm available in sub-tropical hilly region which has high quality in compare to multi-voltine that available in tropical region.
Sericulture is the rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk. The major activities of sericulture comprises of food-plant cultivation to feed the silkworms which spin silk cocoons and reeling the cocoons for unwinding the silk filament for value added benefits such as processing and weaving

The silkworm (Bombyx mori) is the larva or caterpillar of the Bombyx mori moth. Silk has been made for at least 5000 years in China. The moth is important because it makes the silk, and no longer lives in the wild. It is entirely dependent on humans. Silkworms eat mulberry leaves, and were native to northern China.

The adult silkworm is about 2.5 cm long and creamy white in colour. The body is divided into head, thorax and abdomen. The head bears a pair of compound eyes, a pair of antennae and mouth parts. The thorax bears three pairs of legs and two pairs of coloured wings. Abdomen is hairy and wider. The entire body is covered by minute scales. The size of male and female are different.

Silkworm is very useful for human beings and silk thread is obtained from the cocoon. Silk is used to prepare beautiful and durable clothes like sari, tie, etc. and it is also used to prepare parachute, special type of type forcats, the outer covering of telephone wire, etc.

We learnd many thing about silk worm and sericulture from this visit .I would like to thank our science sir Ramesh sir and our principal rajan sir for providing this
